1. Programatic areas through ISAC

The International Society for Analytical Cytology, under the Presidency of Dr. Zbigniew Darzynkiewicz, established the STEP (Specialty Education and Training Program of ISAC) program to achieve several goals. It was to be a conduit along which both educationally related and training related programs could be managed. STEP programs are to be developed in the USA, Europe and Asia. Both the USA and Europe programs are well under way. The purpose is to directly impact upon the training and education of flow cytometry and image analysis laboratories.

2. Individual Laboratory needs and goals

When we evaluate the individual needs of our lab, we see several different needs.

a. To train technicians in the use of instruments
b. To educate technicians continually in advances in technology
c. To educate graduate (or upper level undergraduate) students in the technology principals and applications.
d. To educate other faculty in the field 3. Philosophical Goals

Interactive computer based learning and teaching environmetns must contain several basic constituents to be sucessful.

1. Good computer interface
2. Well thought out information structure
3. Quality information
4. Useful tutorial system
5. Self evaluation criterion for users
6. Feedback system to authors for continuous improvement
