COURSES

Nuevas Perspectivas en Citometría de Flujo

The course “Nuevas Perspectivas en Citometría de Flujo” was held in Oviedo, organised by the University of Oviedo and partly financed by TATIANA under the auspices of the LEONARDO programme, and was attended by European experts in this field.

In the theoretical sessions, further to the fundaments of flow cytometry and its applications in hemotherapy and cellular kinetics, themes relating with stereology, the quantifying immunohistochemistry, the hematopoietic pre-courses and resistance to drugs were discussed.

The practical session in Laser Confocal Microscopy, Digital Image Processing and Cytometry completed this course that included 40 participants in total.

Controversias y Adelantos en Patología Quirúrgica

Organised by the Instituto de Patología de las Fuerzas Armadas (AFIP), Valencia was the town chosen for the development of this course. It considered the event important, and offered the opportunity for the attendance of experts related with the topic of the pathology, TATIANA presented itself, at this occasion to make contact with professionals of this section, in relation with the RUBY Project (Recycling and Updating In Biopathology) and to establish new relations, with a view to future collaborations.

MEETINGS

Jornada Informativa Programa Leonardo

On the 26th of April, the National LEONARDO DA VINCI Agency called a meeting, held by the Economic and Social Board in Madrid, solely about the third chapter of the said programme. The objective was too clear any doubts amongst the promoters and to encourage them to present under this chapter.

In this meeting José García Molina, the Minister of Work and Social Security, explained the principal outlines of the steps of Investigation and Analysis, emphasising its studious dimension of the real needs.

The explanation of the Transference and Diffusion steps was covered by Mª Eugenia Bolaños, representative for the Ministry of Work and Social Security, emphasising the importance of this step for the successful fulfilment of the objectives of the programme.

On behalf of the Leonardo Agency, Ana Zúñiga explained in detail the contents of the Linguistic Powers step and the requirements that must fulfil the proposals presented by this step.

CONGRESSES

XVIII Congress of the I.S.A.C.

The XVIII Congress of the International Society for Analytical Cytology (ISAC) was held in Rimini (I), in April. Among those present at this congress were various partners committed to the RUBY programme (Recycling and Updating in Biopathology). TATIANA attended this event in order to reaffirm agreements and to establish work plans with its partners at the same time as making contact with new European partners.

Mobilities

Justo Alonso Gallardo Vázquez

After finishing his studies in Medicine at the University of Extremadura, Justo has undertaken his practical placement in Walsgrave Hospital, Coventry (UK). Within the General Surgery and Urology Service, he worked in relation with new applied techniques in renal transplants and problems of post-rejection. In this placement he was able to gain a general view of the function of the hospital.

Eneko Cortabarría Azcárate

Eneko, qualified in the area of Electric Machinery, from the School of Industrial Technical Engineering in Bilbao, has completed his theoretical training in MAN Roland, Augsburg (Germany). His work consisted of the elaboration of programmes of programmable robots through software, from which he elaborated all of the programmes that are entrusted in the actions and the control of the electric elements that form the machine.

Aida Sastre Viesca

Qualified in Business Studies from the University of Oviedo, Aida has carried out a 5-month placement in TWS, Stuttgart (D). Throughout this period she undertook a study based on the use of new informatic programmes related with the administrative function of the company. In the same way, and for the majority of the placement, she was able to enter the Accounting and the Marketing Departments.

TATIANA has presented the following projects at the second call of the LEONARDO programme:

BIOTECTRA

Under this acronym, the project BIOpathology TEChniques TRAining prioritises the study of the needs of the “acquisition of new competencies” demanded by the changing social and technological studies, through a study of investigation and analysis, in which partners from 10 european countries participated.

They endeavour to identify the current occupations, jobs and professional powers, and in the same way, the tendencies and scenarios more probable in Biopathology in the year 2000.

The results were gained by two processes:

RUBYNET

The results of the previous study about training needs in Analytical Cytology (Eurotecnet-237) have considered preparing the open and distant training material a priority, to allow the rapid and permanent training of professionals interested in this field.

The RUBYNET project (Recycling and Updating in BiopathologY-interNET) endeavours to set up an arrangement of the training organisations, enterprises and professionals of the sector, innovative training tools that cover the real qualification needs in Biopathology.

The phases that the project contemplates are:

This project allows the adaptation of the new work organisations achieving furthermore a major flexibility as far as the training methods are concerned, to impart new teams of trainers capable of transferring these advanced technologies.

RUBYUNE 2/96

In continuation of our exchange programmes for students, TATIANA presented, in the new Leonardo call a project based on the previous experiences.

Through the RUBYUNE 2/96 project (Recycling and Updating in BiopathologY in the Framework of University-Enterprise cooperation) it endeavours to strengthen the European dimension of the initial and continual training of the professionals within the field of Biopathology.

The beneficiaries of this programme are university students in their final year of study and postgraduates who wish to complete their academic training and their knowledge in new technologies, related with Biopathology, in foreign enterprises.

Promoting the cooperation between University and Enterprise, these place- ments deal with the highest levels of qualification of the postgraduates and students, proportioning a practical dimension to complete their theoretical training. Securing highly specialised resources in the sector of new technologies encouraging their development and increasing the competitiveness of the European enterprises.
