Eloquently put. However, I have one more reason in favor of "smoothing"
graphics for presentations. The majority of my audience knows little about
flow cytometry. So showing graphs and trying to explain away the "noise"
only serves to confuse the issue, and often causes them to dismiss the
topic entirely.
