RE: Listmode Archival Storage

Debbie,

Many flow people are moving to CD-ROM writers for data archiving (rather =
than just data storage). We have recently purchased a Yamaha CDE1000 and =
it works well for *batch runs* of data archiving.

I am a little unsure about your question however ... do you want to =
directly write from Cellquest to CD during acquisition ??? - I have not =
tried this but suspect that it may not be possible. The reason I say =
this is that data transfer rates for CD writing are quite high and must =
be uninterupted, therefore most people make an image of the final CD on =
a high transfer rate (AV) hard disk and copy it across to CD.

For direct capture during acquisition (and storage) of list mode data I =
can recommend an Imoega Jaz drive. This is a removable cartridge drive =
(similar to a Benouli or Syquest) with 1Gb cartridges. This has the =
obvious advantage of the cartridges being reusable, we keep about 6 of =
these giving us about a 2 year data window, and archive to CD-ROM before =
deleting the data and re-using them.

The Jaz drive connects to the SCSI port on the PowerMac or Quadra (I =
have used both with equal success) and the supplied driver software =
takes care of the rest ... remember that a SCSI device must always be =
switched on before the computer is *booted up*

Dear Flow People,
I am interested in installing a once-write/ many read CD-ROM to store
listmode data on our FACSCalibur Flow Cytometer. Does anyone have
experience with using the latter, or have any advice to the installation
thereof on an AppleMAC. I would really appreciate any comments, or
suggestions for an alternative for archiving of listmode data.
