Leigh B. Bangs, Ph.D.

Dr. Bangs founded Bangs Laboratories, a leading
supplier of microspheres for the biomedical/diagnostic fields. In the 33 years
following his graduate education in surface chemistry at MIT, he has held
several management and technical positions in the chemical and diagnostics
industries. He has actively worked with Latex Particles for over 25 years and
his technical manual, UNIFORM LATEX PARTICLES, is distributed worldwide.
J. Michael Brinkley, Ph.D.

Dr. Brinkley is a physical organic chemist with over
20 years of industrial experience in bio-organic chemistry and medical
diagnostics research and development. He has held management positions at Syva
Company and Molecular Probes, Inc., and is currently Vice President of Research
at Emerald Diagnostics, Inc., directing research in the area of latex-based
diagnostics. He has developed a wide range of unique fluorescent latex particles
and has authored several recent patents and publications on fluorescent latex
and chemical modification of proteins.
Mohamed S. El-Aasser, Ph.D.

Dr. El-Aasser is the Iacocca Professor of
Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Director of the Emulsion Polymers
Institute at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, U.S.A. He has over 25 years of
research work in emulsion polymerization and polymer colloids, which are
documented in more than 200 technical publications, three edited books, and 8
U.S. patents. He is a major consultant to industry in all aspects of emulsion
polymerization and latex technology, which includes emulsion polymerization and
emulsification processes, surface and colloidal properties of latexes and their
film formation.
Eileen Gorman, Ph.D.

Dr. Gorman, originally from El Paso, Texas, received
her B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Texas at El Paso and her Ph.D. from
New Mexico State University. During the past 15 years, she has lived in the
mid-Atlantic area and has worked as an integral member of the DuPont
Diagnostics health care / medical products organization in a variety of
capacities, from research and product technical marketing to management of
DuPont Medical Products' intellectual property portfolio as a Patent Specialist.
She was responsible for initiating and maintaining a long term research
relationship with Professor Christopher Price, which resulted in
commercialization of five latex particle based immunoassays and proven
feasibility of several others. She has received numerous awards and has
authored over 40 chapters, papers and corporate reports.
Paul R. Hemmes, Ph.D.

Dr. Hemmes has held senior academic positions at
Rutgers University and has also worked in both research and manufacturing
companies in the diagnostics industry. He has published 60 papers and 8 patents.
He has been involved for the past 12 years with the problems associated with
technology transfer between research and manufacturing. Dr. Hemmes is Vice
President of Operations for Abaxis, Inc. Sunnyvale, California.
Jack Kettman, Ph. D.

Dr. Kettman is Professor of Microbiology at the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Texas and Director of
the Dallas Cell Analysis Facility. For the past 20 years, he has studied clonal
development and lymphocyte activation, especially analysis of gene expression
during T-cell activation. More recently Dr. Kettman has pursued innovative uses
of microsphere and flow cytometric technology to develop multiplex analytical
approaches to diagnostic assays. He has authored over 200 publications.
Robert J. Knox, Ph.D.

Dr. Knox is a biochemist with substantial research
experience in the electrophoretic characterization of biological particle
surfaces. He has applied analytical particle electrophoretic methods to latex
processing problems in both the R & D and manufacturing settings, ranging
from characterization of latex starting materials and monitoring steps in latex
coating to troubleshooting various latex processing problems. Dr. Knox is Vice
President of Emerald Diagnostics, Inc. in Eugene, Oregon.
Christopher Price, Ph. D.

Professor Price is Head of Clinical Biochemistry at the St.
Bartholomew's and Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry and Clinical
Director at the Royal Hospitals NHS Trust, London, UK. He has worked in the
field of quantitative latex immunoassays for several years studying both the
basic chemistry of the antigen antibody reaction and its application in clinical
practice. He has published over 200 scientific papers and reviews and is an
editor of the successful reference text "Principles and Practice in
Immunoassay".
James L. Sackrison

Mr. Sackrison is an immunochemist with over 10 years
experience in diagnostic assay development. He is well known for innovative
conjugation and assay design and has developed numerous commercial immunoassays
which have become leading technologies. As the president of Lakeland Biomedical,
Inc., Mr. Sackrison consults with a number of prominent diagnostic companies in
the development of esoteric immunoassays.
Geoffrey V.F. Seaman, Ph.D.

Dr. Seaman has held senior academic and industrial
positions in production, development and marketing of latexes, latex products,
and biomedical devices. He has more than 30 years experience in the surface
chemical, biochemical and biophysical sciences. He is the author of more than
200 publications and 3 books. Dr. Seaman is currently President of Emerald
Diagnostics, Inc. |
